My self John. I am the web master for a leading ecommerce web site. The web site which I am working on is more than 10 years old. And has more than 1 lakh pages dynamically generated from the database.

We have also done the url rewriting. Recenlty I found that the web site pages are crawled less and the traffic to the web site has felled considerably. I am not getting any idea why this happened and where I am going wrong. I would appreciate if anybody could kindly help me in this regards.

Maybe because your link building are not enough to your web site to be crawled and to gain traffic...

I think you should repair your ht acess redirection, you could asked at webmaster forums about how to properly setting your clocking methods

I think your content is not unique. Check your content by copyscape. 2nd use white hat technique and keep update your content regularly.
